Left side of receiver has Loewe Berlin manufacturer markings. Carbine is NOT import marked and has matching serial numbers on. Item Description: Chilean Mauser Model 1895 Bolt Action Rifle, by Loewe, Berlin, #H7042, 7x57mm, 29' barrel, blue finish, bright bolt, cartouched 1895 European walnut stock, bayonet lug, sling swivels, long-range rear leaf sight, with Chilean crest to receiver ring. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 97%+ original factory blue. Cartouched matching numbered stock shows light impressions and some foxing near buttplate area. Buttplate shows only minor losses at heel and toe.
The bore is strong and prominet with good rifling. Supplied by the Ludwig Loewe & Co during 1895-1896, the Mauser model 1895 first made its appearance during a small arms race between Argentina and Chile in 1896 and 1898. In this period, over 80,000 Model 1895 rifles and 30,000 Model 1895 carbines were shipped and deployed to the Chilean army. This is in Good Used Surplus Condition. History of Mauser Paul and Wilhelm Mauser couldn’t possibly have known the impact their simple yet effective turn bolt design would have on the future of firearms. The long and fascinating history of Mauser rifles began with the acceptance of the Model 1871 by the Prussian War department. It was twenty some years later that the Mauser Military Model 1896, commonly referred to as the Broomhandle Mauser pistol, was introduced. This would also prove to be a highly successful design and just one of many models to follow. Following the development of the Model 98, the Mauser name began to receive worldwide recognition. Turkey, China, Serbia, Mexico, Costa Rica, and numerous South American countries ordered rifles of the Mauser design. The Mauser plant at Oberndorf, which had produced so many of the military weapons used in WW1, was greatly scaled down after the war to approximately 750 workers who were engaged in the production of sporting rifles and pistols.

24' barrel, 44' overall. Orig 10-round stripper clip loadable mag, accepts banana clips. Metal finish: 90% strong blue. Dark bore with strong sharp rifling. Stock is very good, cosmetic crack on the right side. All serial numbers match.

The '95's are not as strong as the '98. The argument is always, 'Why can't I shoot higher pressure loads in my '95?' Go ahead, knock yourself out. Just don't ask me to stand next to you. For deer and similar sized creatures, the lower pressure rounds are more than adequate. There is no reason to load 'em up. Will it definitely blow up with a high pressure round?

The stock has no sling swivel on the left butt or a side plate in the right butt, and it is really hard to believe that someone took a short rifle, removed the barreled action from the stock, and put it in a sporterized long rifle stock. If it shoots well, shoot the crap out of it and have fun. A shooter is better than no shooter. I believe you have a sporterized M1895 short rifle.
