This risky job required a lot of planning and the use of the best assets of the guild and after an almost perfect execution the blueprint was in their possession. Realizing its enormous value they made a copy before delivering it to their employer and started designing their own version of the weapon. Dark Brotherhood could not stay in the shadows for long after hearing the rumors about a powerful new weapon that would clearly give an edge to their members.

I would say embrace that. The Dawnguard DLC crossbows (steel & dwarven) are just blatantly overpowered for their tier so that they were deemed 'relevant' for players already level 50 when Dawnguard was released. The 'Enhanced' versions are an example of Bethesda being 'lazy' and stretching 2 weapon models to be 4 tiers of weapons.

You could dual wield, or you could use sword & shield. Dual wielding is more like a regular bow.

Kelsenellenelvian wrote: Part of the issue with that is the ancient technology quest lines i've already disabled part of it removing the enhanced crossbows pretty much kills the whole quest line. I personally like the enhanced version theory too. Also: The Dragonborn is vulnerable to melee attack for a few seconds during reload, since it cannot be cancelled and it's impossible to run. (This can be countered by unequipping the bolts before or during the reload animation) Yes the damage is high so I will lower the percentage increase to @25% I will also look into trying to balance them a bit in other ways. I really do enjoy the extra crossbow damage, personally. To be honest the armor reduction isn't such a large boost as most npc's don't have significant armor, nor the perks to boost it, which is why the mace perks to ignore armor have always sucked.

Things like stuns and armor penetration are huge. Edited by redbeaniez, 15 February 2017 - 04:58 PM. Kelsenellenelvian wrote: Just remade the whole value and checked damages: I made a formula and applied it: All crossbows cost as a 20% more than the equivalent bow and enhanced bows cost a further 20% more. All crossbows do 50% more damage at the base to even out the slower fire rate. All faction bows were set for value as a hair (Typically about 10%) more than the value of materials needed. So, essentially you can make SOME money smithing crossbows but not much and for the great part they are not going to make you rich farming them from enemies. New update will be tomorrow and will include these changes and anything further that comes along.

The real issue with a 50% base damage buff is that it makes the enhanced versions ridiculously overpowered. However if you don't do the base damage buff, the non-enhanced versions will be useless and players would just keep them in their inventory and use a regular bow until they can upgrade to the enhanced version. My suggestion, would be to make it so all normal crossbows have the 50% ignore armor that enhanced versions have, and just remove the enhanced versions of all crossbows. The 'enhanced' versions are just a remnant of lazy development anyway, so may well do it proper.

It's slower, but the 50% armor ignore makes up for that. Since it's so hard to sneak due to the loud noise when it fires, you wear heavy armor, and that combined with the 50% stagger chance (75% with power shot) makes you much less likely to die in open combat. This is like blocking & bashing with your shield, which raises your overall chance of combat success by quite a bit. By adding all these crossbows, you've enable a non-stealth / non-magic style of ranged combat from level 1 to 80 that was unfortunately missing from vanilla Skyrim.

Period.) They are a bit deep but they are way too much of a pain to change constantly. Thanks Gr3YFoX • Version 1.5. • Changed the meshes and textures of - Dwarven, Steel, Silver, Hunter and Iron for matching and better looks between regular and enhanced version. Added Dragonscale Bolts Arrows (Slightly weaker Dragon ammo) + Dragonhoned Botls arrows (Think arrows and bolts made with only Dargon Bones and Scales, slightly stronger) Now you have more uses for Dragonscale. Fixed the wrong cubemap of Dwarven Crossbow. Nerfed Hunters Fire bolts they were way too powerful for whats supposed to be a basic fire bolt. Fixed recipes for Assassin and Nightingale ammo for continuity with other enchanted bolt recipes.

It doesn't effect the aim correction at all. It also adjusts the distance effects to make longer shots hit better. Ahh ok seems simple enough, thanks for the quick reply! I loaded up and my ebony crossbow was gone! No worries I expected such, and I had mats to make another one. Also, I went after that and deleted the ini & changed the speeds/gravity. Everything is back to vanilla, like you said.

Though, the 'Enhanced' versions of the crossbows where you ignored 50% of the armor was designed to balance it with regular bows despite the slower reload & shoot. Also, are you aware that all crossbows have built in 50% chance to stagger on hit? With power shot its a 75% chance. It's a fundamental design element. 50% Base damage buff would mean that crossbows will always be better than bows for dps, where a 50% armor ignore is more situational. Depending on the targets armor rating crossbow might be better, or bow might be better. This means a player will simply equip what they prefer, rather than feeling forced to min-max with whatever is more damage all the time.

After suffering many losses and with their morale deteriorating many Stormcloak soldiers started using the crossbows of their fallen enemies in a desparate attempt to even the play field. In a random inspection Ulfric Stormcloak became furious when he saw his soldiers using weapons with the Imperial insignia on them and swiftly banned their use.

Err NO, don't do that. You should never follow advice that begins with 'YOYOYO'. I found what was cause the crossbow to not work in 'my' game. The Dance of Death (kill moves mod). If you have the same mod i suggest finding a different Kill Moves mod that works with Dawnguard crossbow animation. If you don't have the Dance of Death mod and it's still not working, i suggest you do what i did.

I have this same problem; tried turning off mods, didn't help.here is my theory. When i equip the crossbow and sheath it my character holds his arm out like he has a shield up or something, then when i go into ready stance he holds the cb like it is a sword or something and pretends to have a shield on his left arm.i think the glitch is that the game thinks the weapon is a shield instead of a two-handed weapon. Maybe someone who is good with code can fix this? I would think it would be a coding problem, but I don't know anything about it really so I am no help. If anyone wants to give it a look, let me know what you come up with.
